Who's on deck??

Hey guys. It has occurred to me that we never settled on an "on-deck" selection. Now I know that some of you may not see this as such a pressing issue, considering East of Eden's length, but I find that I sleep a little better at night knowing what's on the horizon. Call it a weakness if you must, I have many. But when the batter is up, he's got two strikes on him and sweat is pouring down his face, the pressure is on. As he steps out of the batter's box, he takes a deep breath and stands back in confident and ready. Why? Because he saw he was not alone. He saw his teammate there, ready to follow him up. He saw who was on deck!!
So, that being said, I've heard whispers of Thomas Kuhn as well The Aneid. I probably would lean a little towards The Aneid, but either one sounds good. Does anyone else have any other suggestions? Let's get this thing solved guys. The circle is empty, begging to be filled. Peace of mind is just around the corner. All we need to know is who's on deck.

  1. Either one is fine with me. We could also consider working our way through purgatory. Dante doesn’t count until we read all three.

  2. Brent I really enjoyed this post. So dramatic and exciting! I agree completely, if for no other reason than I like to order early from Amazon so I have the book handy when it is time to start.

If those are the 2 options then I vote for Kuhn first followed by Virgil. My reasoning is that our current selection is fairly eloquent, and Virgil even more so, therefore Kuhn might come across as a bit rough after all that beautiful prose.

  3. I like the line up: Kuhn's Structure of Scientific Revolutions on deck, and Virgil's Aeneid bating clean up.

  4. That order sounds good by me. Hopefully Jared and Mike will weigh in if they decide to say, "Nay"!! If not, I say we just go ahead and plug Kuhn in there with Virgil at clean-up!!

  5. Ok, now the question presents itself: Which Aeneid? I assume our old pal Richard Fagles would be the best choice, but maybe Mike has something to say about that.

  6. Pure mad genius as always from Hitman, if we could just pull him raving and foaming back into the kingdom. Argh, be as it may, the prevailing wind of Kuhn then Virgil is fine, and Fagles my vote also.
