Which Way?
Jared just called me wondering, like Herringmeister, which copy of the Tao to order. He's going to follow Brent and I in reading the Stephan Mitchell version. But don't worry too much. It might be fun to have a couple different versions to compare and contrast. I might check what they have in the library and read that version too.

I have reserved a copy of Stephan Mitchell's, The New Translation from Tao Te Ching : The Definative Edition. After the rest of you have discussed your variant readings, we can consult my copy for the 'definative' answer.
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit behind: are we still meeting this Saturday the 5th at 11am? And are we supposed to be done with Republic and Tao by then? I may have solved the cranky baby problem so I actually have a chance of catching up; wish me luck! Is there a specific version of Iliad that we decided upon? PS I'll be using the James Legge version of Tao because it is free at Project Gutenberg (www.gutenberg.org). Maybe I'll pick up a nice copy for the bookshelf later.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately John there's no meeting this Saturday due to Mt. Hermon Family Camp. Our next meeting will be on Sept. 19th at 11 am and we'll discuss the Republic and the Tao together. And the copy of the Iliad we're going to read is translated by Robert Fagles.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your doing well with the cranky baby problem.
Not only is the 19th the day of our next meeting, it is also Rosh Hashana (L' Shana Tova!) and National Talk Like a Pirate Day (Ahoy me Hearties!).
